The first stop during this tour will be at the beautiful Mediterranean town of Rethymnon which will enchant you with its Renaissance architecture, its charming old town and lovely small fishing harbor. The impressive old Venetian fortress overlooking the town is one of the main characteristics of Rethymnon.
Then a short drive will bring you to the Kournas Lake, providing the ideal spot for a midday-break. This largest freshwater lake in Crete offers a beautiful landscape, in a valley among the hills. Enjoy the opportunity to have lunch at one of the taverns at the waterfront, to make a short walk along or take a refreshing dip in the lake.
The route then continues via villages and enjoyable Cretan landscape back west to bring you to the picturesque town of Chania. You will be dropped off in front of the famous Municipality (covered) market – have a look inside! During your stroll down the narrow streets of the old town you will be amazed by the many Turkish and Venetian influences. Old houses are now in use as tiny shops with souvenirs and local products. Dont forget to visit the little leather street of Chania! The famous beautiful old Venetian harbor with its lighthouse is the ultimate place to relax and enjoy the view with a Greek “Frappe” (- iced coffee).
