HD Coach Tour of Paros Island
The excursion starts from Parikia-town, the capital of the island. First a walking-tour takes us through the old town towards the Venetian castle (13th century) and to the church dedicated to the two Saints Constantine and Helen (Konstatinos and Eleni in Greek). This church is situated on the highest spot of Parikia town. Then we descend to the most famous, and one of the oldest, churches from all over Greece – the ‘Panagia Ekatontapiliani’ (meaning our Lady of the hundred doors), built around 400 AC. A visit will be made to this imposing building and its museum.
Then we continue our tour by coach to Marathi, to the ancient marble quarries, where the world famous Parian white almost translucent marble was mined – used to create some of the most well-known statues and sculptures in ancient times (e.g. the Venus from Milos).
The traditional Cycladic architecture we meet again as we reach the village of Lefkes, the former capital of Paros. Time at leisure will be given here to admire the breathtaking view.
Our last stop will be in Naoussa, a picturesque fishing village with typical Cycladic charm. Here a visit will be made to the Moraitis winery, dating back to 1910. We will visit the production-areas and see some old objects used in former days for the wine-production. Also a short video will be shown about the history and wine-production-process, followed by wine-tasting. Then we will make a little walk through the town’s small roads and the port with the colorful fishing boats.
The tour ends in Parikia-town. Here there will be free time for shopping and wondering around before taking the tender-boat back to the ship.
